Designer Spotlight // Lovers Tempo Jewellery

The latest designer to hit the virtual shelves of the Lore Jewellery Boutique is the fabulous Lovers Tempo.  Based in Vancouver, Canada, we are incredibly proud to be the first official UK stockist of Lovers Tempo Jewellery and feel like we hit the jackpot when we stumbled across their stunning collections.  With a focus on trend inspired designs, there are striking ear jackets, lariats and chokers handmade using a mixture of freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones and Swarovski Crystals with 14ct gold and sterling silver plated finishes.

Classic studs are given a contemporary twist with clever use of geometric shapes and unique palettes of colour.  The Spring/Summer 2017 collection uses a sumptuous combination of pale pink, kelp green and opal white hues to stunning effect. Founded by Designer & Creative Director, Elaine Kim, we were curious to find out a little more about how she comes up with these extraordinary creations. Where do you draw your inspiration for your designs from?

I love great design in all disciplines.  I'm inspired by graphic design, apparel, architecture, art, interior, industrial design..the list goes on.  And of course, designs and colours found in natural environments as well.  Each season, I try and capture a mood by looking at different design inspirations and drawing out how that would be interpreted through composition and colour in jewelry.  We think of the modern woman as our muse and what she wants to wear and how she wants to express herself.

What other designers are you inspired by?

Even though my personal style isn't very feminine, I'm drawn to a lot of fashion designers who represent femininity.  Ulla Johnson is one of my favourite designers at the moment.  I'm also very into Australian labels like Lover and Keepsake The Label.  I find Australian designers often create the perfect blend of sophisticated femininity with just the right amount of effortlessness!

How important is it to be ethically minded in today's fashion world?
On a small scale, we're creating a local economy through our brand by creating opportunities through jobs and inspiring others to create businesses in their own communities.  We are involved in every aspect of our business from start to finish so it's a nice feeling to know each of the people we work with from our manufacturers to our retail customers.  Over the last 10 years, as Lover's Tempo has grown so have our partners.  It's a nice feeling to see everyone rise together!

How did you get into jewellery design?

Growing up I loved painting, drawing, crafting..anything I could do to make something out of nothing.  I studied fine art in University and thought that I would be an artist or curator at a gallery.  I fell into jewelry design while working for a local clothing company in Vancouver.  I began experimenting making pieces for myself.  I found I applied the same principles I had for other more traditional art forms to jewelry design.  I focus on balanced composition and tones of colour.  As I learned more about techniques and materials, the designs evolved and developed.  I guess it has become the new medium in which I can express finding a beautiful balance of composition, colour and of course style.

What does the future hold for Lover's Tempo?
For us, we love doing what we do and we also feel very passionate about helping others achieve their own success stories.  I think it's so great that the idea of success is a very personal thing that is unique to everyone.  The future of Lover's Tempo is here and we are living it everyday.  We feel lucky to be doing work that we love and that we're able to our passion with others!
