Statement Jewellery at Milan Fashion Week

With Milan Fashion Week drawing to a close, we took the opportunity to scour the catwalks to see what the designers predict the forthcoming jewellery trends to be for Autumn/Winter 2014, and alas, it seems that statement jewellery reigns supreme once again!  With an incredible array of inspired designers bringing their new season collections to the runways of Milan, we couldn't wait to see what the world of fashion and jewellery design had in store for us.

With incredible splashes of colour brought to the table by DSQUARED2's collection, there was a definite nod to the 60s with inspired trench and swing coats, shift dresses and fantabulous colour blocking.  For accessories, statement jewellery was the order of the day for this incredible twin design team, as they indulged their models in oversized metallic cuff bracelets and bejewelled neck chokers.  DSQUARED2 amour.

Oversized cuff bracelets were also chosen by Giorgio Armani in his Autumn Winter 2014 collection.  His 'Fade to Grey' collection was aptly named as slim fit trousers, sweetheart neck lines and pleats were brought forward in varying shades of grey, with splashes of lime green thrown in for fun.  Once again high shine and metallic components adorned large rectangular cuffs and bangles, some of which were in keeping with current trends and stacked several times over.  Symmetrical styling was also demonstrated, with thick leather wrap bracelets worn, one on each arm,  an inspirational look that we have certainly taken note of!

Tassel necklaces most certainly took centre stage in Roberto Cavalli's incredible collection, most definitely our favourite of the week.  This breathtaking collection demonstrated a total mishmash of influences and themes.  We're talking equestrian rock and roll goddess meets military, hippy, flapper chick (if you can imagine!).  Fur boleros and military style jackets, flapper style beading and fringe embellishments, bold and tribal inspired prints, this collection is right up our street, and the only way a piece of jewellery was going to gain any notability amongst such designs was for it to be supersized, hence these huge, sweeping tassel necklaces.  Roberto Cavalli we salute you.

Chokers are most certainly making a come back, as demonstrated on the runway in Versace's Autumn Winter 14 collection.  These were styled from chains that created a central fringed, tassel effect - simply stunning. Larger medallion style necklaces overlaid simple slip dresses, which was in keeping with the military theme that clearly prevailed throughout the collection.  The chosen accessories complimented the collection beautifully and definitely raised some alarm bells to us regarding upcoming trends.  We thank you Versace!
